What are the trails like?

Queenstown is one of those places that experiences all four seasons, so the riding year round changes. In the height of the summer (Jan-Feb) we may experience extensive dry periods, making local mountainbike trails very dry, dusty and loose to ride on. This might sound great but it actually gets too dry, the locals are wishing for rain at these times, just so we can get a bit of traction back under our tyres!

Spring sees cooler morning and evening temperatures, but still pleasant during the day, can still be quite dry at this time of year, but winter is on its way!

During winter people do still ride, as we don’t really get snow down to low levels in Queenstown it means lots of the mountainbike trails are still rideable, albeit a bit wet and slippery at times, but this makes for a nice change. You are, however, not likely to meet many people out on the trails as most people are up in the ski fields! Spring is one of the best times of year as the temperatures are starting to get warmer and the days longer. The ground is still damp, making for some great tacky riding conditions.
